# Send HTTP request

> Sends an HTTP request, with its method, URL, headers and body, and hands the response to the next steps.

## Behaviour

| Property | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Group in the editor | Utility |
| Retries | A step is not retried. If it fails (a step error, an HTTP answer that is not 2xx…), the run ends as failed and is not retried on its own, unless the step sits inside a «Try» step, which catches the failure so the run goes on. Only failures of the engine itself are retried, up to 3 attempts with waits of 30 and 60 seconds, and the retry skips the steps already completed. |
| Repeated runs | Not protected by the step itself; the journal of the run stops a completed step from running twice. |

## Configuration

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `method` | enum<string> | Yes | |
| `url` | string | Yes | A plain template: the editor offers no variables or functions for the URL. |
| `headers` | record<string> | Yes | A plain object: one template value per header. |
| `body` | json | Yes | A JSON shape: string, number, boolean, object, list or variable. `null` means unset: the editor shows the placeholder and no body is sent. |
| `response` | type | Yes | `null` means unset: no shape is declared, so any response passes. |

## Values for the next steps

| Name | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `variables_<id>` | unknown | Response |
