# Open an incident

> Records broken, lost or damaged material.

With `blocksAvailability: true` the material leaves the available pool while the incident remains open; if the item is tracked by quantity and you do not indicate a specific physical unit, `affectedQuantity` becomes required. The repair cost is NOT part of the public contract. Returns the created incident.

## Arguments

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `title` | string | Yes | Short title, the one shown in lists and cards. |
| `type` | string | Yes | Nature of the incident. `damage`, `loss`, `malfunction`, `cosmetic`, `theft`, `custom` |
| `scope` | string | Yes | What the incident affects. `item`, `serializedItem`, `space`, `kit`, `vehicle`, `custom` |
| `status` | string | No | Initial status. Defaults to "draft". `draft`, `open`, `waiting`, `repairing`, `complete`, `lost` |
| `priority` | string | No | Priority. Defaults to "none". `urgent`, `high`, `medium`, `low`, `none` |
| `severity` | string | No | Severity. Defaults to "low". `low`, `high` |
| `description` | string | No | Description of what happened. |
| `blocksAvailability` | boolean | No | true removes the material from the available pool while the incident is open. |
| `affectedQuantity` | integer | No | Affected units. Required when blocking bulk stock. |
| `itemId` | string | No | Affected item. |
| `serializedItemId` | string | No | Specific physical unit affected. |
| `variantId` | string | No | Affected item variant. |
| `spaceId` | string | No | Affected space. |
| `vehicleId` | string | No | Affected vehicle. |
| `orderId` | string | No | Order in which it was detected. |
| `projectId` | string | No | Associated project. |
| `contactIds` | string[] | No | Involved contacts (supplier, insurer, client) so they can see it. |
| `assigneeStaffIds` | string[] | No | Staff assigned to resolve it. |
| `subscriberIds` | string[] | No | Deprecated: accepted for compatibility and ignored. Incidents no longer keep a subscriber list. |
| `labels` | string[] | No | Free-form labels of the incident. |
| `images` | string[] | No | URLs of photos of the damage. |
| `dueDate` | string<date-time> | No | Target resolution date, in ISO 8601 with offset. |
| `reminderEnabled` | boolean | No | Enables the internal reminder. |
| `reminderDate` | string<date-time> | No | Reminder date, in ISO 8601 with offset. |
| `parentIncidentId` | string | No | Incident of which this one is a child. |
| `idempotencyKey` | string | No | Idempotency key chosen by the client (a UUID is recommended). Repeating the same key with the same arguments within 24 h returns the stored response without executing again; with different arguments it responds 422. It is the safe way to retry after a network failure. |
| `ifMatch` | string | No | Optimistic locking: the meta.etag you got from the detail read of this resource (or "*"). If the resource changed since, the call fails with 412 precondition_failed before writing anything; read it again and retry. Omit it to write unconditionally. |
