# MCP quickstart

> Connect one assistant, check it with a read tool and choose the scopes it needs.

## In Claude, with OAuth

1. **Add the connector** In Claude, add a custom connector with the URL `https://app.filmo.io/api/v1/mcp`. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds it; see [Connect Claude](https://docs.filmo.io/mcp/connect/claude).
2. **Connect** Open the connector and choose Connect. Claude opens Filmo's consent screen.
3. **Choose the scopes** A Filmo administrator checks the scopes. Read scopes the client asked for come checked; writes, `workflows:run` and `ai:ask` always start unchecked.
4. **Ask** Ask: “Which Filmo account am I connected to?” The assistant should call [`filmo_account_get`](https://docs.filmo.io/mcp/tools/account/filmo-account-get).

## In Claude Code, with an API key

1. **Create a key** In the app, in the API and MCP page of the settings, create a key with a preset's scopes (below).
2. **Export it** Set `FILMO_API_KEY` in your environment. Never put the value in a file of a repository.
3. **Add the server** Run the command from [Connect Claude Code](https://docs.filmo.io/mcp/connect/claude-code).
4. **Ask** Ask the same question.

## Choose a preset

Start with a read preset: the client lists fewer tools and the assistant cannot change anything. Add writes when you trust its choices.

> **Tip:** With OAuth, a preset only works if the administrator checks those scopes by hand. To change scopes later, remove the connector and add it again. More in [Limits and context](https://docs.filmo.io/mcp/guides/limits-and-context).
